Police: Female From Philly Driving Stolen Car Charged In Fatal Crash

Police In Montgomery County have charged 18 year old Asiyah Mowatt-Mays, 18, of West Durham Street in Philadelphia, for Homicide by Vehicle, Aggravated Assault by Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property and other charges related to the July 29, 2024, crash that killed a 15-year-old and injured two others.
Police said that the car she was driving was reported stolen from Chestnut Hill on July 27 of this year. At the time of the crash, Mowatt-Mays was driving and a 15 year old and 14 year old were hanging from the windows of the vehicle. Police gave the following details about the crash.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5 a.m., on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the intersection of Stenton and Evergreen Avenues in the Wyndmoor section of Springfield Township. Springfield Township Police arrived to find a white 2004 Infiniti and a red 2020 Hyundai, both resting on their sides and severely damaged. A 15-year-old male, unconscious and lying on the sidewalk, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year old male was found unconscious and severely injured, also outside of the vehicle. The
defendant was found outside of the Hyundai, suffering from extensive injuries to her face and eye. The driver and sole occupant of the Infiniti had to be extracted from his vehicle and was severely injured.
Using black box technology, police ascertained that Mowatt-Mays was driving 47 MPH on Evergreen Avenue, when she failed to stop for a red light and collided with a vehicle that had the right of way and was traveling at about 60 MPH, police said.
Mowatt- Mays was held on $250,000 cash bail.
