Police Want To Know What Happened To Memorial Plaque

by Alex Lloyd Gross

An officer on patrol noticed that a memorial plaque that was honoring a fallen officer has gone missing. The city has been installing plaques on sidewalks to honor the memories of police and firefighters who were killed in the line of duty. The plaque honoring Charles Knox has been dug up and removed from the 2000 block of South Broad Street.

Police checked with the Fraternal Order Of Police and the Walgreens drug store where the plaque was in front of. Both denied removing the plaque. Police said that plaque may have been missing for some time, given the amount of debris where the plaque once was set.

Charles Knox was shot and killed at a Roy Rogers Restaurant on August 30,1992. Knox confronted an armed robbery. Two robbers were caught in the act and one fired two shots at Knox, just after he was wresting with another suspect. The male that shot him was in the managers office when Officer Knox entered the store.

Both were arrested and are doing life sentences. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said the department “Is taking this very seriously and asked anyone with information to please come forward.” They can call (215) 686-3013 or (215) 686-8477.

  1. It’s such a shame that desecration of a person’s memorial has to happen.
Same as people going into a cemetary messing with tombstones.
    Or war memorials, or statues.

It’s childish behavior, accomplishes nothing good, except in the childish mind of the perp.

As for those two robbers serving life sentences, on taxpayers money, nah, they deserve the death penalty for such an act on a law enforcement individual.
Why force society to continue to house and pay for such a crime?
