Matt Gaetz Takes His Name Out Of the Attorney General Nomination Process
by Alex Lloyd Gross
Matt Gaetz, the controversial politician who was a congressman in Florida, resigned to take the nomination for Attorney General. Just hours ago, he took his name out of the running. President Elect Donald Trump has to pick a new person for Attorney General.
Since Gaetz resigned, he cannot just rescind that and go back. He must run again in a special election and fight for his seat again. A Congressional inquiry was set to release their findings on allegations that Gaetz had sex with underage girls and or did drugs with them.
That inquiry was scuttled when he resigned. It is unclear if that findings will be released. There is a possibility he can be appointed to the US Senate, to replace Marco Rubio. In fact the hashtag #senatorGaetz is trending on X right now.
Gaetz spent most of the day yesterday trying to shore up support for his nomination. While some senators supported him, a lot gave him a lukewarm reception.
