Levittown Family Back In House After Falling Victim To Shady Contractor
by Alex Lloyd Gross
It was back in April of 2023 when Alyssa and Robert’ Kapusta’s house on Silverbell Road caught fire in Levittown. The house was a total loss . It was caused by something electrical . It was covered by insurance. They put in a claim and dealt with what they now consider a shady contractor. “He took $100,000, gave a public adjuster $50,000 and did no work beyond demolishing the house that had been on fire” Alyssa Kapusta said.
The young couple were screwed over, as the contractor refused to refund their money and he demanded more cash up front to continue any more work.; Fortunately, Alyssa was friends with Kate Lees, daughter of Paul Davis contractor owner Mike Lees. He thought he could help them and they he did.
Just a day before Thanksgiving, he announced that his company had completed the build on the Levittown House. He invited the media to show the house and share their story. Due to the fact that the contractor did some work ( the demo) the Kapusta’s have to hire an attorney to go after them for a civil claim. They just don’t have the money to do that at this point.
Some fire adjusters are unscrupulous, even spoofing 911 call centers numbers to contact fire victims or their neighbors on the pretext of having them contact a certain adjustment or restoration company. It is a confusing and vulnerable time for people. Unfortunately, the Kapusta’s hired someone who they say was not above board. Lees stepped in and got in touch with some contractors he knew who work with the couple. His company, Paul Davis did all of the hiring of contractors to insurance negotiations.
The result was a brand new house. The Kapusta’s and their two children, Autumn, 6, and Chloe,2, will move in on Monday, along with their dog Asher, after the township completes their inspection. “When I heard about what happened and how this all came together for these people and how I was able to help them, it almost makes me want to cry.” said Lees. Before he left, he presented the Kapusta’s with a Thanksgiving dinner platter.
