Chanukah Parade Kicks Off Tonight On Ben Franklin Parkway

Tonight is the fourth night of Chanuka and it will be celebrated with an amazing menorah parade. Hundreds of cars with all kinds of menorah’s decorated on the roof will converge at 21st and Ben Franklin Parkway, then make their way down to 5th and Market Streets. It is a spectacle that must be seen. This is a rain or shine event.

What follows are traffic and parking restrictions, some are effective today at 3:00 PM,

Parade Route

The parade begins at 7 p.m. The route will be closed on a rolling basis. Closures will be temporary as the parade progresses and will be reopened as the parade passes. 

  • Starts at 21st and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
  • Eastbound on Benjamin Franklin Parkway to Arch St.
  • Eastbound on Arch St. to 15th St.
  • Southbound on 15th St. to S. Penn Square
  • Continue around City Hall to Market St.
  • Eastbound on Market St. to 5th St.
  • Ends at 5th and Market St. where the festival will take place


Road Closures

The following street will be closed beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 28 for parade set up:

  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway (inner lanes) from Eakins Oval to 21st St.

The following street will be closed beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 28 until 10:30 pm:

  • 500 Market Street

Parking Restrictions

The following streets will be posted as “Temporary No Parking” zones from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 28:

  • 500 Market Street

Vehicles parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated. If you believe your car has been relocated, call the police district of the area where your car was parked.

Additional road closures and parking restrictions may be necessary in the vicinity of the event venue as dictated by conditions. Residents and visitors should always obey posted signs and instructions from the Philadelphia Police Department.
