Remembering Jimmy Carter and Some Of His Philadelphia Visits.

Former President Of the United States Jimmy Carter had died in his home in Plains Georgia. He was 100 years old and had been in declining health for several years. Of course, when he was campaigning and when he was president, he visited this area frequently. When he left office he still occasionally returned.

It was spring of 1988 when Habitat For Humanity was building houses for low income people to live in , at 19th and Wilt, in the heart of North Philadelphia. Carter was a huge supporter of this organization and he went to the worksite. This was not a photo opportunity. He worked. He put on old clothes and alongside his wife Rosalynn , the two grabbed some tools and built homes.

That means that there are people that reside in North Philadelphia that live in a house built by a former President Of the United States.

On July 4,1990 Carter returned to Philadelphia to accept the Liberty Medal. He made some remarks from in front of Independence Hall where he was joined by then Mayor W. Wilson Goode., who bestowed the award on him. After, he addressed the media inside the historic building and then participated in cutting a birthday cake on 5th Street behind Independence Hall.

President Joe Biden has declared all US Flags be flown at half mast for 30 days. A national day of remembrance will be held on January 9, 2025. Biden also said he would hold an official state funeral. Final arrangements are being finalized . Carter asked that when he died, he be buried in Plains Georgia.
