
City Erupts With Celebrations As Eagles Advance to Super Bowl

55-23. That was the final store after the Eagles thrashed the Washington Commanders at Lincoln Financial Field. If you did not have a ticket to the game you could watch it at one of many sports bars. When the game was over, the people took to the streets to celebrate.
In center city, police were kept busy with rowdy drunks trying to rip street signs up. At Broad and Walnut Street, people climbed on top of sanitation trucks. On Chestnut Street, people thought it would be a good idea to climb on bus shelters. A few people fell and required medical condition. SEPTA was forced to shut subway stops from 13th and 15th Streets. It was a wall people. A few shot off fireworks.

At Cottman and Frankford Avenues, huge sanitation trucks were moved into position to close the roads by the start of the fourth quarter. Apparently, “No Parking” signs meant nothing to the drivers of two cars, that were just south of the intersection. They were towed and relocated north, away from the area.
People were inside Reale’s Sports Bar cheering the game.It was packed inside and every time the Eagles did something on the field the crowd would erupt in deafening cheers. With a few minutes left in the game, quite a few people left and came into the street. It was closed and Eagles fans marched to the intersection in droves.

Some carried flags, others had speakers to blast music. By 6:50 PM there was about 4000 people at the intersection. Some came and cheered and then left. Others stayed , bringing cases of beer with them. It was a party.
Prior to this game, poles were greased to deter people from climbing up them. At Frankford and Cottman, that only slowed up the determined. by 8:00 PM several people were arrested, most will be charged with disorderly conduct.
