Brush Fire Causes Frankford Avenue To Be Shut Down
by Alex Lloyd Gross
A brush fire behind St. Dominic’s on the 8500 block of Frankford Avenue caused the busy road to be closed to traffic. The fire was reported about 1:00 PM today and brought out a large response from the fire department. At one pint, all companies were put into service.

The only way to get a lot of water to the fire was to tap two hydrants on Frankford Avenue. The result was that Frankford Avenue was closed between Strahle and Pennypack Streets for about an hour. At one point, officials said the fire was about 1000 x1000 feet long.

It is important to get water on the fire quickly, before the fire gets too far down in the ground. It then smoulders and then rekindles itself later on, if it can generate enough heat.
