Police Say 17 Year Old Arrested, Carjacked, Shot Victim In PA, Drove To North Jersey

A 17 year old is in serious trouble in New Jersey and Philadelphia. He may be also facing federal charges for an alleged carjacking incident in North Philadelphia. Philadelphia Police said the incident happened just before 3:00 AM when the victim was driving for Lyft. He responded to a run on the 900 block of Fairmount Avenue and was met by two black males, one wearing dreadlocks.

The male with the dreadlocks entered the rear 0of the car and immediately demanded the drivers wallet and threatened to shoot him. The victim then started to drive away with the victim in the back seat , which prompted the suspect to shoot the 58 year old driver. The driver then exited the car and the gunman then drives the now stolen car , a 2025 South on 10th Street.

The stolen vehicle was later observed on a New Providence Police Department camera at approximately 4:07 a.m. and investigators were able to track the vehicle to Jersey City, New Jersey. With assistance from the New Jersey State Police, Jersey City Police, and Irving Township Police, investigators were able to apprehend a 17-year-old Black male. A firearm and the stolen vehicle were recovered. The male is currently in custody in Jersey City.

Police are still searching for the second male.
