by Alex Lloyd Gross
A private criminal law attorney in Philadelphia was recently arrested by the FBI after he was found to have allegedly worked with the mother of another inmate to smuggle a cellphone and narcotics into the Philadelphia Detention Center. The US Attorney said that the incident happened on February 4, 2025 . That is when Attorney Paul DiMaio walked into the facility with two folders.
He requested to see inmate Nyeem Thrones. Authorities said. DiMaio was not representing Thrones in any legal capacity, yet told authorities he was. He stayed inside the visiting room with Thrones for 18 minutes and left with one folder. Authorities said that Thrones had the other one.

Prison authorities looked inside and found a cellphone and a charger, 83 strips of Suboxone, and 240 loose cigarettes. Suboxone is a Schedule III controlled substance.
An investigation was started and it was learned that DiMaio had multiple phone calls and texts with Tanya Culver, who is the mother of an inmate, Jahlil Williams. Court documents state that Williams and Culver knew each other and Culver knew that DiMaio went to the prison to meet with Thrones for the purpose of delivering the contraband to him. In fact, they were in the same vehicle together, outside of the prison, just moments before the meeting took place calling Williams..

DiMaio did not currently represent Williams but he did represent him on a state charge of Homicide. Authorities arrested DiMaio and Culver and charged them both with providing contraband to prison inmates .
