Fire Damages Frankford Apartment Building
by Alex Lloyd Gross
A fire damaged the Luce Manor Apartments located on the 4700 block of Gilham Street . The fire was reported just after 11:00 AM today and resulted in several apartments being damaged. There was no word on injuries but medic units were called as a precaution.
Heavy fire and smoke was visible towards the rear of the building. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. The cause is under investigation and several apartments were left uninhabitable, officials said. Firefighters used large diameter hoses to get water to the fire.

The extended hose lay across Oxford Avenue resulted in it being closed to traffic for over an hour, until apparatus could be cleared. Fire crews dispatched their CAT unit for any animals that might be impacted by the blaze.

SEPTA had to re route some buses due to the closure of Oxford Avenue. The Market Frankford Line was not affected by the fire. This fire is a block away from the Margaret/Orthodox Transportation hub.
