A live penguin, brought in from South Africa by the Jenkinson Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach NJ drew the largest crowd yesterday at Bensalem High School. The event was Family Fun Day, which was put together by State Senator Frank Farry and State Rep K.C. Tomlinson.

The weather during the morning was chilly and not a great day to do anything outside. That’s why the event was held in the gymnasium inside the high school. It featured an obstacle course for children, face painting and balloon twisting. When word got out that a real live exotic bird was going to be making an appearance, adults and children congregated in that area to see it. It was a penguin.

This was also a way for the community to meet with different government agencies and get information. Not just elected officials, but agencies on aging, the free library and education. Current elected officials, like District Attorney Jen Schorn met constituents. Candidates like Linda Bobrin and Dawn Burke who are running for Court Of Common Pleas Judge showed up to meet potential voters..

The event ran about four hours. Programs were distributed to event goes that had information on exhibitors and sponsors. Free popcorn and cotton candy were given out and Bensalem Police brought their Copsickle that had free ice cream.

The attendance was very good especially for a first time event and bad weather. “I am happy with this, I think it’s something we would like to continue to do”, Senator Farry said. When it does return, look for it to expand with more things to do . Everyone that came out had positive things to say about this and hopes it will return next year..
