Lower Southampton Police Look For Area Counterfeiter

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Counterfeit cash circulates more than you would think it does. The modus operandi for a person passing fake bills is to purchase something that requires change. They have to make it seen not suspicious. A $2.99 item paid for with a $100.00 bill will set off red flags.

Paying for $20.00 with a fake $100.00 bill is a lot more common. That is what Lower Southampton Twp. Police said happened March 13, 2025 to Angela’s Pizza on Brownsville Road. The male in the above photo ordered pizza and soda. His bill was $20.99 and he paid for it with a fake $100.00 bill.

After receiving the change, the suspect exited the restaurant and entered the front passenger seat of a black Chrysler 300 with heavy tint, displaying a fraudulent PA temp tag (4405050). Older bills are easier to fake than a newer one.

Police said the bill used was “made” in 1990. A lot of younger cashiers are unfamiliar with older currency and might not know what to look for, police said. Police said this male has pulled this scam several times in the area.
