
Arrest Made More Than A Year Later In Philly Murder

More than a year after a teenager was gunned down in Southwest Philadelphia, police have announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the killing.


According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers from the 12th District responded to a 911 call reporting a person with a gun on the seven thousand block of Elmwood Avenue shortly before midnight on Friday, March 29, 2024. When officers arrived at the scene around 11:40 p.m., they discovered the victim, 17-year-old Jada Gray, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in the rear of the property.


Gray, a resident of the 7200 block of Passyunk Avenue, was pronounced dead at 11:58 p.m. by Philadelphia Fire Department medics who responded to the scene.
After an extensive investigation led by homicide detectives, authorities announced the arrest of 19-year-old Kani Hunt on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Hunt, a resident of the 1300 block of North 10th Street, was formally charged the following day with murder and related offenses.
Police did not release details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances leading to the shooting.
