Levittown Resident Arrested For Alleged Theft From Her Montco Employer

Police in Lower Moreland Twp, Montgomery County announced the arrest of Susan Staples, from Jennifer Court Levittown for stealing over $169,000 in goods and services from her employer, while the owner was out sick, police and court documents said.. The thefts happened between October 2023 and August 2024..

According to court records, some examples of the theft include when Staples was employed as an office worker for Ben Manis Plumbing on Philmont Avenue. She was in charge of such things as purchasing and expenditures, police said. During that time period, Manis, who was the owner of the business was out sick. Staples, police said caused one of the company gas cards to be used to fill up personal vehicles. The filling stations used were located in Tacony, Levittown, on the Roosevelt Boulevard and in Aberdeen Maryland. When he reconciled the books, Manis did not authorize these purchases, police said. The total amount was almost $170,00 police said.

Multiple cellphones and ipads were ordered on the company telephone account. 10 different times, unauthorized phones and equipment were shipped to the plumbing business, where Staples had access to retrieve them. The ten phones were valued at more than $20,000.00 police said.

Part of her job at Manis was for Staples to pay invoices with business checks. Five checks were written out for cash. Police said that they checked Staples drivers license through a computer and matched her signature to the checks.
