A Montgomery County insurance agent is facing a slate of felony charges after allegedly fabricating hundreds of life insurance policies in a brazen scheme that netted him more than $600,000 in illegal commissions, according to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.

Dennis Wright, 42, of Glenside, was arraigned Monday morning on charges including felony theft by deception, identity theft, insurance fraud, and related offenses. His bail was set at $100,000.

State Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the charges, describing Wright’s actions as a “betrayal of trust” and a serious violation of both ethical and legal standards within the insurance industry.

“This defendant betrayed clients and dishonored his position to line his own pockets when he was trusted to make insurance arrangements that would have provided peace of mind and financial security for Pennsylvanians,” Sunday said in a statement. “Insurance fraud is far from a victimless crime, and my office takes it very seriously.”

An investigation by the Attorney General’s Office found that between June 2020 and February 2022, Wright exploited his role as a licensed life insurance agent to defraud National Guardian Life Insurance (NGL). Prosecutors say Wright fabricated 332 life insurance policies by forging personal details and signatures—without the knowledge or consent of the named individuals.

Authorities allege Wright went a step further, setting up businesses to launder the commissions he received through the scheme. In total, he allegedly collected $603,000 from NGL before the fraudulent activity was uncovered.
