Philadelphia Police are investigating an accidental shooting incident that left a five-year-old boy with a hand injury on Saturday. Earlier on Monday, they announced charges against Nadir Baskerville, 24, of Philadelphia in connection with this incident.

According to authorities, officers from the 25th District were alerted after the child arrived at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children via private vehicle. Medical staff reported the boy suffered a laceration to his left hand, consistent with an injury caused by handling a firearm.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the child and his 21-year-old sister, had gone to a property along the 500 block of East Thelma Street. While inside the residence, the five-year-old reportedly located a firearm and accidentally discharged it, causing the injury, police said.

A 24-year-old man who was present inside the home during the incident was detained by responding officers. He was identified as Baskerville and he was charged with Reckless Endangering, and Tempering With Evidence, as well as other, related offenses.
