Women’s Animal Center In Bensalem Holds Open House
by Alex Lloyd Gross
The Women’s Animal Shelter in Bensalem Twp. held an open house yesterday. It was inside the center in a room away from the animals. There were going to be a lot of people in there and the animals might not be used to that many people.

As people walked in there were different vendors displaying wares and services. Many had little trinkets to give away. Proceeds went to help the animal center.
According to Karen Lash, from the center, the idea is to bring the community into the fold , showing off the things that this place does for animals. There is a vet hospital, and of course adoptions. Lash is hoping that this event, called their “Spring Fling” will become annual event.

Pets are not disposable. They are family members. When people surrender animals, most people think some reasons are idiotic. “I’s not cute anymore” or “I did not think it would be this big” for example.. There are legitimate reasons to surrender an animal, such as relocating and the new landlord is does not allow animals, or a death of a pet owner. A majority of people believe landlords that do not allow animals are making very poor decisions that will impact their bottom line, “The women’s Animal Center does not pass judgement on why the person surrendered the animal, “Lash said. They just want the animal to go to a loving home.
When adopting a new animal, you should be adopting it for life. For those people that cannot afford to feed their pet, should know this shelter donates pet food to the Opportunity Council’s Fresh Connect Food Pantry at the Bristol Twp. Municipal Building once a month. “This helps keep people with their pets,”Lash said.
