
Philadelphia Police Release More Info On Roosevelt Boulevard Police Shooting

Philadelphia Police just released information on the armed car jacking and police chase that happened last night. When it was all done, one male was shot dead by police and one male is under investigation. It started just after 7:10 PM when police went to the 500 block of Hunting Park Ave, for a shooting and robbery.
It was learned that Jerome Cooper, 29, carjacked and shot the victim one time in his abdomen. A bystander saw this and then started to exchange gunfire with Cooper, who fled in the victims car. The bystander was not involved in the car jacking and police are looking to see if he knew the car jacking victim.

Information was broadcast about the stolen car, which was spotted 2nd Street and Cheltenham Avenue and a pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, at approximately 700 Cheltenham Avenue, Cooper discharged his weapon at pursuing officers. The pursuit went onto the Roosevelt Boulevard where the stolen car crashed into a tree.
Cooper then got out of the car with his gun raised at police. A total of seven officers fired their guns at Cooper . In that hail of bullets, he was shot multiple times, police said. Cooper was taken to Einstein Hospital where he passed away at 9:06 PM. Police recovered his weapon.

The crime scene was so extensive that police had to hold the scene for many hours until daylight, to process it. Crime scene tape still is stretched across the 4600 block of the Roosevelt Boulevard.The male that fired his gun has been detained for investigation.

Police said no officers were hurt in the incident. All seven officers have been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of independent investigations by the Philadelphia Police Department’s Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Unit, the Internal Affairs Bureau, and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

Body-worn cameras and dash-cams were activated during this incident.
