Since 1986 the Philadelphia Music Alliance has been advocating and promoting Philadelphia musicians and those that have helped spread the word about Philly music. These people get honored with a plaque on South Broad Street.

The cameras are mostly trained on notable people , some of whom have included Patty Labelle, Dick Clark, and members of The Roots in the past. The reason is simple, people recognize those names a lot faster than people that are not in the limelight.

The plaques are embedded in the sidewalk on both sides of South Broad Street from about Walnut Street South and can be seen by anyone that walks by. This area features many historic locations of the Philly Music Scene, such as the old home of Philadelphia International Records and many local clubs.
