A one vehicle crash caused a boatload of problems for residents and police in Somerton earlier today. A vehicle driven by a 19 year old male veered out of control and slammed into a PECO pole on the 10100 block of Bustleton Avenue just before 11:00 AM.

The pole was sheared at the base and had a transformer on it. It was leaning against wires . PECO had to send quite a few teams to the scene. There were intermittent power outages in the area. The traffic lights at Bustleton and Red Lion Road were malfunctioning.

Police had to close a portion of Bustleton Avenue around the scene. That did not stop motorists from driving around the barricade . Sources said the male was driving south when the crash happened. No other vehicles were involved.

Police said the injuries were serious but not life threatening.
