
Philadelphia Police Announce Charges and Arrest In Shooting Of Officer

Police announced the arrest and charges against 30 year old Dachan Seay and charged him with Aggravated Assault On A Law Enforcement Officer, and a host of other assault and weapons charges, after he allegedly discharged a gun yesterday as police were breaking up a fight in front of Overbrook High School.

When Seay fired his weapon, reports were that he fired a shot to the ground. At a press conference earlier today, Police said the bullet or a fragment ricocheted from the ground or a fire plug and struck the officer once in the stomach. The projectile went under the officer’s protective vest

According to police, the officer was attempting to break up a large altercation involving students near the school when a gunman arrived and opened fire, striking the officer in the stomach. The officer was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and is in stable condition, Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said

Dachan Seay, was apprehended shortly after the incident and has been charged in connection with the shooting. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel condemned the violence, stating, “This is an outrageous act that underscores the dangers our officers face daily. We are grateful for the swift response that led to the suspect’s arrest. I am not looking for an apology. What did you think would happen if you pull a gun out during a fight”.

Mayor Cherelle Parker also addressed the incident, emphasizing the city’s commitment to ensuring the safety of both students and law enforcement personnel.
The shooting occurred just as classes were being dismissed, leading to a chaotic scene. The Philadelphia School District has confirmed that no students were injured during the incident. Police said arrests would be made against the students for fighting in the near future.

Police are not releasing the officer’s name and could not nail down Seay’s involvement in the original fight.Seay has a long criminal history for assault, and drugs in Florida and Pennsylvania
