Election day is tomorrow in PA. It is the primary election, but still it’s important. That is why Ro Khanna a Democratic Congressman from California showed up for an in-person town hall held yesterday at the Heritage Hall in Newportville. Attendance was capped at about 300 and that is what showed up. The congressman for this area, Brian Fitzpatrick does not do in person town halls, he prefers to do them by telephone.

Yesterdays event ran until 8:00 PM, with everyone getting to ask a question who wanted to. Unlike telephone town halls, where you have to listen to everyone else’s issues before you are told there is no time left and you cannot talk to the congressman. Call the office and chat with the staff. It’s not the same thing.

Congressman Khanna is from Newtown PA (Bucks) and talked about the current administration. “It’s wrong to fire workers, he is firing good workers, he’s firing veterans and he’s decimating agencies”, Khanna said.

With this event, the topics ranged from illegal immigration and deportations. One woman called them kidnappings. Republicans want to get illegals out of the country, especially those that are intent on committing crimes. Recently, the US Supreme Court has halted the sending of these people to El Salvador. One such male, Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, was sent there under the guise of him being an MS 13 Gang member. That fact has not been proven, and since the US Supreme Court said that since Trump says he cannot get him returned, the flights to CECOT prison have been halted. The congressman agrees with this.

A lot of the comments dealt this veterans issues. It’s wrong to cut VA benefits and Khanna is against doing that. By about 7:15 PM folks started to trickle out and leave. Either they asked their question or their subject matter was addressed by someone else. Social Security benefits was a hot topic, with the demographic in the room being mostly older adults concerned about what is waiting for them when they retire.

People are also concerned about the Affordable Care Act. They want it left alone. The congressman is in their corner on this issue. Former President Joe Biden was diagnosed with cancer and the congressman asked for a moment of silence for him.

What took so long were the participants themselves. Some asked a quick question, others, like the last question, a younger person concerned about trans rights and the gay community. He rambled on for about three minutes. Everyone in the room was lost, including the congressman, who addressed the issue and closed the town hall.

Ro Khanna rose to internet fame with his support for Tik Tok, the app that he supports. “175 million Americans are on this app. People make a living off of it and President Trump has repealed the ban for another 75 days and I’m going to push to repeal the ban,” Khanna said.

There were no protests or counter protesters at this event. President Trump wants to build American jobs and have things made in America. So does Ro Khanna. The congressman said that when he encounters protestors he will engage them in a discussion and before long they realize that he wants the same thing and they do, higher wages, better jobs and no cuts to Social Security or Veterans Benefits.
