Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis Visits Croydon Train Station To Push For SEPTA Funding

SEPTA and other public transportation agencies across the state need more money. It is imperative that they get that funding to survive and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis was in Croydon to talk about that very subject. “Without additional funding, bus routes will be eliminated and Regional Rail Service would be curtailed.

That means if you take SEPTA to a ball game or a show, it better be a matinee because you will not be able to get a train past 9:00 PM, according to Davis. Right now a trip from the Bridge and Pratt terminal to a concert or ball game in South Philly will cost you $5.00 round trip. No taxi or ride share will do that. If you drive to the stadium, expect to pay $30.00 or more to park.

The state legislature is voting today on a bill to give SEPTA extra funding it needs. Davis was speaking about getting the state senate on board to pass it once it moves past the house.Public transit affects everyone in PA. Lawmakers that do not have any public transportation in their district could possibly have companies in their district that manufacture parts for trains or buses. Without that funding, orders will not come in and Pennsylvanians could lose their employment.

About 9:15 AM Davis, along with SEPTA management and union officials made their case for funding. This had to be done by the end of the month. Last year it did not get done and Governor Josh Shapiro had to use Federal Highway Dollars to bridge the gap. After the conference, Davis boarded a train at the Croydon Station, to ride into Philadelphia.
