Accused Murder Suspect In Custody In Bensalem

A suspect in the murder of Maisha Coon, 49, from Trenton, NJ, is now in custody in Bucks County.. His name is Orenthia Upshur He was was transported from prison in New Jersey to Bensalem by the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department after waiving extradition. Upshur was charged with Criminal Homicide, Unlawful Restraint, Kidnapping, Weapons Violations and other related offenses. He arraigned today by District Justice Falcone and was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after bail was denied.

It was back on January 15, 2025 when Upshur is alleged to have killed Coon in the Sleep Inn Motel on Street Road. He is alleged to have shot Coon in the motel room and then fled back over the bridge to Trenton NJ.

Police got a tip about the shooting and that it may have happened in a Bensalem motel near Route 1. They did an exhaustive search and discovered Coon had been shot.

At 4:30 a.m., Trenton Police received a 9-1-1 call of shots fired near the intersection of Parkside Avenue and Oak Lane. When officers arrived, they heard more shots and then saw an armed subject run into a home on Oak Lane. More shots were fired from inside the house as police surrounded the residence. The Mercer County Tactical Response Team responded, eventually entered the home, and took Orenthia Upshur into custody. Police recovered a gun that is believed to have been used in the homicide of Maisha Coon.
