Second Suspect Sought In South Philly Mass Shooting

One July 5, 2025, there was a shooting at a lounge on the 1100 block of Washington Ave in South Philly. A total of eight people were shot, Four victims were transported by police, and four others arrived by private vehicle at three different hospitals. All victims were reported to be in stable condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an argument outside the club escalated into a physical altercation involving knives. As security personnel attempted to intervene, gunfire erupted on the balcony, causing patrons to flee. A security guard on duty admitted to discharging a firearm.

The motive for the shooting was the initial argument. Police said that one male, Michael Welton, 43, of Philadelphia, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possessing an instrument of crime (PIC), and recklessly endangering another person (REAP).

Through their investigation, police recovered security footage of another male they are looking for. He is described as a black male of heavy build, with a full beard and tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue sweatpants, light gray sneakers, and a large gold chain with a charm.
