Classic Rockers Styx To Play Local With New Material
by Alex Lloyd Gross
Styx, the band that brought you songs like Lady, Come Sail Away and Renegade is going to be playing at the Amphitheater in Camden New Jersey. That show will happen August 8,2025.
According to Styx keyboardist, Lawrence Gowan, “We finished our residency back in February, that we decided to do the Grand Illusion in it’s entirety, we had not done that in like 15 years so it went over so well that we decided to do this through the summer. It works in tandem with our new record coming out”, he said.
That record is called Circling From Above and it’s pretty darn good. “We’re going to Build and Destroy, for now we may put in more later. When you have half a century legacy, people want as much of the history of that band to be on that stage as possible,” Gowan said.

The band hopes that by playing the full Grand Illusion album and other hits, newer fans can become familiar with the band even more. According to Gowan, a lot of fans attending Styx shows are under 40. Gowan has a degree is classical piano performance, “When I was a teenager, I realized that the level of musicianship was elevating quickly with the advent of Progressive Rock. I’ve always loved classical music, I try to play it about an hour a day.”, he said.
Gowan is a very successful solo artist. In Canada, he will play the same arenas solo as he plays with Styx. Unfortunately, not in the United States. “I was signed to Columbia Records in 1982. Between ’82 and ’99, before I joined Styx, I had six solo albums out, they were multi platinum and gold. Back then, major labels would decide what albums would be released where and mine were not released in America, for some reason”, Gowan said.
Styx is at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion on August 8. Don Felder and Kevin Cronin are opening.
