Philadelphia Male Escalates Traffic Stop Into Multiple Felonies After SWAT Is Called

Philadelphia Police were forced to call in the SWAT team after the said Paul Reid was driving a 2010 Nissan north on 19th Street about 1:40 AM. He allegedly drove past two stop signs without stopping. When officer tried to stop the car, the driver stopped in the middle of the block. After the car was stopped, the driver was seen reaching beneath the seat. Upon making contact with the driver and front-seat passenger, officers observed narcotics packaging inside the vehicle. When asked for identification, driver’s license, and registration, the driver failed to produce any documentation. When instructed to exit the vehicle, the driver instead placed the vehicle in neutral and began revving the engine.

As additional officers arrived, they tried to prevent Reid from leaving. Reid is accused of digging his fingernails into an officers hand. At one point during the struggle, a body cam became dislodged and fell into the vehicle, which was driven away.

Police found that car a short while later with the body cam on the 7400 block of Andrews Road. The driver was not with the car. Police located his residence but he were not successful in speaking with Reid. SWAT was called and a barricade was declared. After about 20minutes, police said Reid surrendered.

He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Assault on Law Enforcement, Possession of Narcotics, and related offenses.

    I’d bet all those “in a hurry” cars flying down and totally ignoring the stop signs on Hawthorne street and Longshore, among other nearby streets, are hurrying to do drug drop-offs too.
    You put an unmarked car there and watch the parade – bet you’d be surprised.
