Fatal Wrong Way Crash Shuts Down Route 1 In Morrisville

MORRISVILLE, PA A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a wrong-way crash on Route 1 in Morrisville, authorities said.

The collision occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Route 1 slightly south of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission jurisdictional line, when a white sedan traveling northbound in the southbound lanes struck a commercial truck head-on, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The driver of the sedan, whose identity has not yet been released, died at the scene. The truck driver’s condition has not been disclosed.

Pennsylvania State Police are leading the investigation and have closed the affected stretch of Route 1 to allow their accident reconstruction unit to document the crash site. Emergency responders remained on scene for hours, causing significant traffic delays in the area.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until the roadway is reopened.

  1. The accident did not occur on Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) property. It occurred slightly south of the DRJTBC’s jurisdictional line. Please run a correction.
