Blackmore’s Night Tour Postponed, Wilmington Show To Be Rescheduled

“Ritchie Blackmore plays what he wants to play You don’t take Ritchie anywhere,he takes you”, said Candice Night, the lead singer for Blackmore’s Night. “I never heard of this kind of music before, I met Ritchie in 1990, when he was in Deep Purple and that was what he listened to”, Night said. It’s Renaissance Music that she is referring to and it’s what Blackmore is playing recently.

He did reform Rainbow for a contractual obligation for BMG and that was around 1995. That was for one album. Now it’s Renaissance Music, which is a lot different than the hard rock he was known for, in Deep Purple and Rainbow. Candice related on how she became a co writer for the band.

“Ritchie played a background track for me when I was going up to see him on a ferry. He asked me if I could come up with lyrics as their current singer was having a hard time with the song, ” She has been doing that for years.

She further stated, “When he tried to put out the first record, record, the record company wanted Ritchie to send them a demo. “I had not done a demo since I was 16”, Ritchie said, as related by Candice. It became very corporate. Ritchie is now at a place in his career that he can play what he wants when he wants. So, according to Candice, he can play Smoke On the Water or something else. Whenever,

Candice an Ritchie have gone to Renaissance Fairs and at times they will be recognized. Others times no. “People will ask if he is Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath and he just laughs,” Candice said. When we do that it’s never announced it’s never official. They did this in Pennsylvania.

This band was supposed to be at the Queen in Wilmington this week, but due to an illness in the band,the tour was postponed.
