Larry Krasner Sworn In For Third Term And City Controller Takes Office

Larry Krasner took the oath of office today to begin his third term as District Attorney of Philadelphia. During an almost two-hour ceremony at the Kimmel Center on South Broad Street, Krasner continued his rhetoric attacking former President Donald Trump.

“I swore an oath, and he has done everything to go against that oath,” Krasner said. That, is why I keep talking about him, Krasner said.
Krasner no longer appears in court and admitted that trying cases is something he misses. “Later—not today—I will unveil my plan for this city,” Krasner vowed. During his remarks, he highlighted the city’s declining violent crime rate and promised to help reduce it even further.

As District Attorney, Krasner is also a politician, which includes raising funds for his party. He spoke about voter turnout, noting that when Lynn Abraham and Seth Williams were in office, turnout was low—about 12 percent. Krasner said turnout in the most recent election was nearly 35 percent.
Not everyone is a supporter of Krasner. When asked what he would say to those who do not support him, he responded, “This is a democracy. I respect your vote, and I respect your opinion. I couldn’t care less how you voted—all of you are my constituents, and I look forward to working with and for all of you.”
Before Krasner took the spotlight, Christy Brady was sworn in for her first term as City Controller. Brady has effectively been performing the role for the past two years after Rebecca Rhynhart stepped down to pursue an unsuccessful mayoral run. The controller’s job is to ensure that city funds are spent legitimately.
