NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are on scene of an active armed barricade situation in a residential neighborhood of Northampton Township, where a male subject armed with knives has remained barricaded inside a home for more than two hours, authorities said.

Police fear the suspect may have seriously injured family members believed to be inside the residence. Officials have not confirmed the number of people involved or the extent of any injuries.

According to law enforcement sources on scene, a SWAT team deployed tear gas in an attempt to force the suspect out of the home, but the tactic was unsuccessful. Negotiations are ongoing.

Multiple police agencies and emergency responders have sealed off the surrounding area, blocking access to nearby streets as the standoff continues. Crews are operating under extreme cold weather conditions, adding complexity to the response.

A resident of Heather Road, who asked to remain anonymous, described the neighborhood as typically quiet and peaceful. “This is a very calm community. Nothing like this ever happens here”, the resident said. “We just hope police can resolve this quickly and everyone makes it out safe”.

Officials are urging residents to avoid the area and follow any instructions issued by police.
