It’s Never A Good Time To Play On Frozen Lakes and Rivers

by Alex Lloyd Gross

It’s winter and that means freezing cold. Lakes , streams and rivers get frozen over and they are attractive to play on. A free place to ice skate, a fun experience with a family pet, until it’s not.

No matter how cold it gets, there is always a danger that ice below is not 100 percent frozen and can crack or give way. Now suddenly, you ( or your pet) is in frigid cold water and in danger of being trapped under the ice.

First responders that train, never go on ice without multiple redundant safety procedures in place. If you are alone and underwater, the chance of you getting out is very low. Remember, it takes rescuers time to respond and set up.

The Delaware River is frozen and tugboats and other heavy boats were seen traveling up and down the river, breaking up the ice. once that happens, ice is not stable and can collapse at any given time.

  1. This fascination of going out on rivers and lakes that are frozen over is……. DUMB.
I don’t see the interest of risking your life playing on something that you cannot determine for sure if it’s safe to do.
It’s like playing russian roulette with a loaded gun. – DUMB.

I suppose the only benefit to something like that is removing someone with utter stupidity from the planet.
And perhaps feeding the sea creatures.
