Shredding Event Held At Roosevelt Mall

by Alex Lloyd Gross

About 350 people were expected to arrive at Roosevelt Mall this morning for a paper shredding and household electronics drop-off event.

According to Vikton Kagan, from State Rep. Sean Dougherty’s office, “Our office is doing this in conjunction with State Reps. Jared Solomon and Anthony Bellmon. Their districts are really close to this location, so we all came together to do it,” said Kagan.

By 8:30 a.m., people were in their vehicles waiting for the event to start. The truck doing the shredding was arriving, and by 8:55 a.m., the first driver was able to dump the papers they had brought with them into a bin. Once the bin was full, it was hoisted into the truck for shredding.

The line moved quickly depending on what people had to get rid of. One bag got someone through in 20 seconds. When people had bins of papers, that took longer.

“Holding this on a Monday, which is also a federal holiday, was helpful to people who could not get to us during a weekend event. Saturdays are Shabbas, so Jewish people cannot make it, and church is held on Sunday, which means those who attend cannot come that day. The fact that it was held on Presidents Day means a lot of folks have the day off from work.”

This event was held from about 9:00 a.m. until noon. Shredding events are put on by different state representatives in the area. Contact one of them if you missed this one.
