Joel Hoekstra Puts Out New Record
by Alex Lloyd Gross
The esteemed guitarist from Trans Siberian Orchestra, Whitesnake and fresh off a fill in spot with Accept, has just released a new record From the Fade. It is a bit heavier than other records he has done. From the first track, “You Can Give”, the album is really something worth a listen. Then there is “Lifeline”.
Because he just finished a stint with Accept, Hoekstra said this album is a bit heavier than previous works he put out. He has put out previous solo material before, some of it instrumentals and they all feature different artwork on the cover, Not of him or his band. ” i’ve always liked the artistic approach it it, I guess, at this point, I can say it’s consistency. Ever since i started this project, Joel Hoekstra’s 13, Prior to this project, I released three solo albums, under my name, Joel Hoeskstra. They were instrumentals,” he said.

The band Whitesnake is finished and he played lead guitar from 2014 until the end of the band. Now he can devote more time to his solo projects. The musicians are top notch and he has Vinnie Appice on drums, and Tony Franklin is on bass. Jeff Scott Soto from TSO is back with him as well.
Fans will want Hoekstra to tour but that may not happen with this record. At least for a while. “It’s expensive to go out on tour. I have to pay the musicians, pay a driver, rehearse, pay for the fuel. If I did that I’d probably lose money”, he said.

There are smaller venues he can play, like the Sellersville Theater or City Winery. It would be interesting to see him live at a smaller venue playing his own music. Joel is toying with the idea of maybe hitting the road in 2027. “These solo records are not really a money making endeavor for me, it’s more of a creative outlet,” Hoekstra said.

He is back with TSO this year and that tour should kick off during the winter. “I love going into the audience and seeing a small child and playing right in front of them. So see their reaction, especially when I drop a pick by them, it’s so cool,” he said.
Hoekstra like the idea of meeting fans. “The Monsters Of Rock Cruise, I do that every year and that gives me the time to chat with people in a more casual setting.” he said. Every fan has a story from how they met or saw Hoekstra . He can pop up in any band to fill in for a guitarist that cannot make a show.
