Apparently, there had been issues when they were there before, as the lawn was out of control.

Police knocked several times but there was no answer at the front door. As they were going to the rear of the property, Derrick emerged from the front and told police that he was “just about to call you guys, my mom stopped breathing this morning”.

When officers entered the property, it was in complete disarray, they wrote in court papers. The refrigerator held nothing except condiments and a door dash bag. The freezer had rotting food that was covered in insects, police said in court documents.

Police contacted the coroner who stated that the body had been dead for close to two weeks. When police searched Derrick’s phone, they found searches for “Bensalem Probate Court” and “When to notify bank of deceased family member”.
