Breaking: Small Plane Crash Near Grant Ave

A small plane crashed near baseball field at Fluehr Park, on the 4800 block of Grant Avenue just after 4:00 PM. Two people are reported to be injured. The injuries are said to not be life threatening.

According to what a witness reported, the plane possibly lost power as it was approaching NE Airport. The plane banked a turn and came down in the field, which was unoccupied at the time. It was a rough landing, the plane bounced a few times, before crashing into a tree. It appears the pilot successfully dodged a different tree.

Police , fire and rescue companies were on scene , and were able to free anyone in the plane. Fluehr Park was still open to the public but closed to vehicles. Specialized were called to the scene to deal with any hazards. Federal authorities were also called to the scene, along with airport officials.

The plane is expected to be there for a while. Pending storms will hamper recovery efforts later tonight.
