Olde Langhorne Harvest Day Draws Thousands
by Alex Lloyd Gross
The area surrounding Maple Avenue was detoured and Maple Ave. was closed for most of yesterday as over 100 different vendors set up tents and exhibits to celebrate Olde Langhorne Harvest Day. The weather could not have been better.
It was a great way to spend a few hours, seeing different crafts and tasting different foods that were for sale. Quite a few people brought their dogs and most of them got more attention than they bargained for.
Politicians set up tables for constituents to meet with staffers. Then there was music. Classic rock was played and about 50 or so chairs were set up to see one of several performers. An event like this just does come together, it takes planning. Months of planning.
The streets were closed hours before the scheduled opening. Vendors arrived and set up tents, then moved their merchandise and set up their stands. Early birds walked down and saw what was already set up. Then they come back and see more things. By showing up early, they get to see the best bargains and get more steps in.
The event was supposed to close by 4:00 PM but by 3:15 some merchants were already breaking down their stands. Some food vendors had sold out of certain items. This annual event had been going on for some time and people come from all around the area to be part of it. This Year was special as the event helped celebrate America’s 250 Birthday.
