Two killed in fiery wreck on Roosevelt Blvd.
By Alex Lloyd Gross
Two people were killed in a gruesome crash on the Roosevelt Blvd at Woodward Street shortly after 9;00 PM today, December 18, 2016. It could have been a lot worse, .The crash happened when a Mercedes was traveling north at what Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department called an “excessive speed”,when the car struck the rear of a school bus which was stopped at a red light. There were no kids on the bus.
The car burst into flames and Small credited the fire department with extinguishing the flames quickly. “We have determined that there were only two people in the car, a male driver and female passenger. We have no idea of who they are yet”, Small said at the scene. The force of the crash lifted the bus up several feet. The driver immediately pulled the bus forward and tried to help the victims in the car. A couple of minutes prior to this crash, the bus was filled with school kids who had just been dropped off.
The bus driver was not hurt. The crash was witnessed by two off duty cops from the second district. There were no other vehicles involved. There was no evidence of evasive action taken by the people in the Mercedes. The speed limit on that stretch of road is 45 MPH.
