Montgomery County teacher jailed for asking students for naked photos
By Alex Lloyd Gross
Stephen Catania was a substitute teacher with a long term assignment as a substitute teacher at North Montco Technical Career Center. He is alleged to have used Snapchat to solicit two of his students for photos of them in their underwear. One girl was a former student of his when he made the request back in January of this year. She told him that was against the law and refused to do it, police said. According to police, Catania then is alleged to have instructed the student not to tell anyone. The girl told the police who started an investigation.
Another former student approached Towamencin cops with allegations that Catania had offered her $100.00 for risque photos. She refused. As police were investigating the first case, Catania is alleged to have contacted this girl again, with instructions for her to delete his Snapchast and his number from her phone as well. She did as she was told. In March of this year, he is accused of sending her more messages. When she got them, she went straight to the police
Catania was arrested and charged with electronically requesting photos or videos of sex acts from a minor, unlawful contact with minors, corruption of minors and harassment through lewd or threatening language, police said. He remains in the Montgomery County Jail unable to post bond.
