Firefighters Save Cat At Apartment Complex Blaze in Bensalem
By Alex Lloyd Gross
While no official cause of a fire has been determined, many residents are blaming a lightning strike , for starting a quick moving fire at the Franklin Commons Apartments on Park Ave. Just after 3;00 PM multiple fire companies were dispatched the the fire on Hummingbird Ct. As the first engine company arrived, they had smoke coming from the second floor. Residents are credited with alerting their neighbors which prevented people from being hurt.
As crews arrived, they were able to stop the fire from spreading to multiple apartments,. However at least four units received damage either from smoke or fire. When one resident informed firefighters that their pet cat was still inside, in a ground floor apartment, an animal carrier was secured and the cat was rescued. Bensalem police said there were no injuries. In spite of that, one person was observed being loaded onto an ambulance. It was unknown if that was related to the fire.
Firefighters used ground ladders to access the roof, where they cut holes to stop the spread of fire and vent smoke.
