WSFS Bank Expands Into Pennsylvania and New Jersey
By Alex Lloyd Gross
WSFS bank merged with Beneficial Savings bank earlier this year. All banks will now be called WSFS. There was a heavy advertising campaign that included billboards on highways and some surface streets. Gone is Beneficial. This week all signage should have been changed over and the bank was closed Saturday to transition into WSFS from the old computer system.
The website was changed over as well. it appears that WSFS is going to continue to not offer credit cards, like Beneficial did. However ATM cards with the Beneficial name will not be changed over and will be accepted at all locations. The signage inside the banks were changed over within the last 60 days. Temporary Beneficial signs were hung over the now permanent WSFS signs on the bank exterior.
WSFS originated in Delaware . It stood for Wilmington Savings Fund Society. It was very similar to the Philadelphia Savings Fund Society, which became Mellon. They traded under the name Mellon PSFS. The marketing people played with the WSFS name and now gave it the moniker We Stand For Service. All branches will be open Monday, August 26, 2019.
