Gas Explosion Levels House in Northeast Philadelphia

Philadelphia Fire crews were busy on the 4400 block of Pearson Street yesterday,when a suspected gas explosion leveled one house and caused damage to another.  The incident happened just before 1:00PM October 10 2019. One person was transported to the hospital in unknown condition, officials said.   Firefighters had to wait until the gas was shut off before declaring the fire under control.

As fire raged, crews could only use defensive tactics, a fight it from the outside until the gas service was shut off. Multiple medic units were called and most of them staged at the corner of Frankford Avenue and Pearson Street.  Once the fire was completely extinguished, crews brought in construction equipment  and  started to tear the house down. Multiple homes on the block were affected with smoke damage.  Crews remain on scene through the evening.
