Authorities Still Investigating Somerton Shooting

by Alex Lloyd Gross

It has been at least 72 hours since police rushed to the 400 block of Parlin Street in Somerton. A male called and said he shot his mother.  Police arrived and did find a woman shot. She was identified as Rima Ablyamitova, 50, by Philadelphia Police.

Her son was waiting outside the residence and surrendered  to officers without incident. Sources said he claimed it was an accident.  Police have a very long time to charge someone with murder. There is not statute of limitations. For lesser charges, such as involuntary manslaughter, police still have years to determine what, if any crime was committed.

In the meantime, they are doing a complete investigation. A suspect was brought in but not charged.  This is a common occurrence, according to police.  It could indicate there is not enough evidence to bring charges at this time, or ever. There are times when someone is arrested and charged  years later, when evidence is examined, police said. Police have not released the name of the male brought in for questioning.
