Three Philly Officers Shot During NE Domestic

It all started over a video game. It was last night about 7:30 PM when a father and son got into a heated argument over a video game, inside a single family house on the 7500 block of Whittaker Ave. At some point during the argument, the boys uncle became involved in the argument and withing a few minutes, police said. The boy and his uncle ran upstairs and was followed by the father, who then pulled out a gun and started to shoot the uncle. 911 was called and police responded, authorities said.
As officers responded to the scene, two patrolmen and one Sergeant were first on scene. They were met by gun fire from the father, who was waiting for police arrival, said Acting Police Commissioner John Stanford. . Police returned fire, killing the suspect.
Two officers were shot in their legs and the Sgt. was shot in his finger. All were in stable condition late last night. Mayor Jim Kenney said during a statement last night, “I thank God that they’re all okay. I thank them for their bravery and their desire to do this job, which is very, very difficult. And I thank their families for the sacrifice that they make.”
Police had previous dealing with the suspect and according to published reports, the suspect might have suffered a mental illness.
