With less than a week to go to election day, the judicial bench in PA is a hotly contested race. That is why Dave McCormick was trotted around the eastern part of the state to stump for judges and meet voters.

He was at a restaurant in Norristown talking up a series of judges and in Bucks County, he found himself at Republican Headquarters on Broad Street. That was a friendly event with everyone in that building guaranteed to vote. McCormick is just a candidate himself and his election is over a year away. He is taking on Bob Casey for the Senate.

The judicial candidates all are qualified and have time on the bench or the experience to ascend to the next level. Pennsylvania Supreme Court candidate Carolyn Carluccio, Superior Court candidates Maria Battista and Harry Smail Jr., and Commonwealth Court candidate Megan Martin were with McCormick. .

Not too many people understand what Commonwealth Court is. According to Martin, “We handle government litigation”. Someone arrested does not go to Commonwealth Court, nor does someone suing a business. Utility lawsuits, government matters get handled there, that is it,” Martin said.

At the Bucks County event, McCormick arrived, shook hands and spoke for about three minutes. All of the candidates spoke and they all said they want to keep politics out of the courts and urged those in attendance to vote. All of them face stiff challenges to the office. It’s not going to be a cakewalk.

Bringing McCormick for these events is viewed as a strategy to boost his profile in the race for the US Senate , next year.
