Christmastime At Canstatters

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Holiday time means people get together to eat, tell stories and exchange gifts. There is also a visit from a certain fat man in a red suit. He usually resides in the North Pole but he has been known to visit this area close to the holidays. They call him Santa and he paid a visit to Canstatters this past weekend.

The club, located on Academy Road near Frankford Avenue held a private event for members. It was there that parents told club staff their children and their ages and how many they were bringing. The club took care of the rest. The event was on Sunday and featured a magic show from Mystique. Of course, he did the obligatory triple ring trick but he really brought the house down when he set fire to a pamphlet/ folder that contained a card which some audience members picked out. They thought the card was in the deck but it was not.

By 4:00 PM Santa came walking in through the doors of the dining room. He was besieged with children all proclaiming to have behaved throughout the year. Then children were brought up on stage by age group to get gifts from Santa. Behind Saint Nick was a huge table overflowing with toys. No socks and underwear, kids don’t want that.

Kids don’t want to sit through a full course meal either, that is why the buffet was hot dogs and French Fries. Canstatters holds events throughout the year, including the summer concert series held on Wednesday nights and a Labor Day festival in September. .
