Suspect Dead After Standoff With Philly SWAT In Rhawnhurst

One male is dead, following a tense standoff with the Philadelphia SWAT team that started at 4:56 AM. According to Corporal Jasmine Reilly, of the Philadelphia Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Borbeck Street and Roosevelt Boulevard at 4:56 AM. There was was report of an accident. They were met by a male who declined any offers of help and police services were not needed.

When officers left, they heard gunshots from the area and returned. They saw the male firing his gun from a vehicle. He refused commands to surrender and SWAT was called. The male refused to exit his car and a barricade situation was declared. SWAT arrived at the scene minutes later.
The suspect then brandished his gun and was shot by SWAT officers through the windshield of his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. During the barricade situation, all traffic on the Roosevelt Boulevard was closed from Rhawn Street to Tyson Ave.

The identity of the suspect has not been released . No police officers were hurt in the incident, police said. Eventually the Boulevard was re opened except the southbound outer lane at Rhawn Street. This shooting happened just outside the Gary Barbara car dealership.
Police will be visiting businesses in the area to obtain security camera footage.
