Police: Cottman Ave Shooters Rode Up In Stolen Car

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore gave more information on the eight children that were shot yesterday, on Cottman Avenue. He stated the investigation has turned up quite a bit of video and officers and detectives are looking through it. Four black males parked a stolen car at the Dunkin Donuts and waited until a SEPTA bus arrived before they ran out and started shooting. One male stayed in the car. He was the driver, Vanore said.

The car was stolen and has been recovered he said. The car was stolen in the 7th Police District and when the thief stole the car ( a Huyndai),they left a stolen KIA in it’s place. Both vehicles are now in the hands of detectives who are combing through them, looking for hairs and fibers.

While that is happening, all of the students that were shot are recovering from the shooting. All are expected to make a full recovery, Vanore said. He stated that license plate readers are not as helpful as people would think. “The issue is paper tags and stolen cars,”. They will track them but determining the ownership is a lot more difficult.

Police are also looking for video of the car arriving. and hope to track it back. ” It’s doubtful these guys will wear their facemasks all day”, Vanore said. Police are hopeful it shows them stopping at a store . At times we have to get a warrant for the camera footage, Vanore said.
