Portions Of Northeast Philly Dig Out From Quick Moving Storm

Climate is global, weather is local. That is why there could be a devastating storm in one area, but a block over it is untouched. That’s what happened to some areas in the Far Northeast yesterday, as a fast moving storm complete with high winds, thunder, lightning and rain destroyed trees and utility pole along Grant Avenue near Frankford.

That area seemed to have the brunt of the storm damage. Power was disrupted and trees were felled. This area was on the golf course along Grant Avenue and Frankford, where workers were seen cutting up trees and trying to cart away the debris. The road is closed for several hours until the work is done.

Tree service companies were also busy on area streets, trying to clear trees from fences , streets and portions of people’s houses.

The National Weather Service has not confirmed any tornado. It most likely was a micro burst or straight line winds. This happens in a very concentrated area but the damage can be similar to a tornado, official said. .
